According to the founder of the International Center for Reiki Training, "Reiki is a Japanese form of stress reduction and relaxation that promotes deep healing." Mikao Usui developed reiki in the early 1900s, deriving the term from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things.
What is reiki? Reiki is hands-on or hovering energy cleansing.
How does reiki work? Energy smoothly flows through key energy centers (Charkas) from the client's body and through the hands of the practitioner. This energy flow helps to stimulate the body, mind, and spirit to release blocked areas where one holds their traumas, stresses, and past pain.
What happens during a reiki session? Reiki treatments typically last 60 minutes. During a session, you’ll lie on a massage table fully clothed, as your reiki practitioner gently places their hands, palms down, on or just above your body in specific energy locations. They use a series of 12 to 15 different hand positions.
What does reiki feel like?
You may experience the energy in the form of sensations like heat, tingling or pulsing where the Reiki practitioner has placed their hands. Sometimes, people feel sensations moving throughout the body, while other people do not perceive any change at all. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful during reiki treatment, and many fall asleep during the process.
The release of this stuck energy feels like the weight they were carrying was lifted. The experience is usually a springboard to mental clarity and emotional ease.
In my Reiki sessions, I sometimes use drumming, crystals and tuning forks depending on the individual. My biggest joy happens when a client validates feeling lighter and/or when someone shares their unexpected spiritual experience.
ABOUT REIKI MASTER, DIANA SMITH
I became certified to practice and teach all levels of Usui/Holy Fire Reiki Ryoho System of healing as an independent Reiki Master. I am also attuned to Holy Fire III through the course led by the founder and president of the The International Center for Reiki Training. The certificate is for in-person and online Reiki.
2018: Reiki Level 1 training and attunement to Usui System of Natural Healing in accordance with Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition.
2019: Level 2 & Level 3 Advanced Practitioner Training from the same Usui Shiki Ryoho Tradition.
2020: received additional Reiki training from a Reiki Master certified with the ICRT to became a member of The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) organization.
2022: Level I - Akashic Records Practitioner Certification led by a member of the Linda Howe Center for Akashic Studies.
